Social distancing measures to see 14-day extension
The period covered will be from January 21 - February 20, 2022.
An announcement by the government revealed that social distancing measures are to be extended by 14 days.
“Hong Kong is now facing the imminent threat of both the Delta and Omicron mutant strains spreading in the community. We strongly urge residents to reduce social contact and avoid gatherings among families during the festive season in order to contain the pandemic,” said a government spokesman.
In lieu of this, catering businesses will continue to cease dine-in operations from 6 pm to 4:59 am of the next day. No live performances will be allowed in catering premises, with bars and pubs being closed for the time being.
All premises under the previously announced Cap. 599F will continue to cease operations.
Masks will be required in all public areas, as mandated under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing of Mask) Regulation (Cap. 599I). Exclusions to this include outdoor public places in country parks and special areas as defined in section 2 of the Country Parks Ordinance (Cap. 208)).
A fixed penalty of $5,000 will be imposed.
Mass events will also continue to be prohibited, with those being found in violation of this paying a maximum fine of $ 25,000. Imprisonment for six months can also be implemented, while individuals who participate in a group gathering may pay a fixed penalty of $5,000.
All local tours will also continue to be suspended.
