Chart of the Day: Will Singapore's lacklustre tourism finally regain its shine?
It welcomed 6.89 visitors as at May 2016.
The city-state's tourism industry is looking to bounce back from a dreary 2015 as it booked a 13.3% growth so far in visitor numbers.
According to a report by CBRE, the increase is fuelled by a spike form the top visitor markets, most notably China.
"Mainland Chinese tourists continued to show strong growth in visitor arrivals, with 55.1% increase yoy to 1.25m travelers as at YTD May 2016," the report noted.
The number of Chinese visitors seem to have surpassed Indonesia, historically Singapore's largest visitor market.
"For the same period, there were 1.18 mil travelers from Indonesia, a healthy 9.2% growth y-o-y," the report added.
Meanwhile, CBRE said the surge in Chinese travelers was largely due to strategic partnership deals that the Singapore Tourism Board booked with Chinese online travel services.
