Here are the hottest hotels slated to open in Singapore next year
Competition seen to intensify.
According to DBS, with supply remaining fairly stagnant over the past few years, the Orchard Road area will see a number of hotel openings in 2014, starting from the recently opened Holiday Inn Express Orchard hotel.
In 2014, DBS expects to see two major hotel completions – the 502-room Traders Hotel (on the ex-Phoenix Hotel site) and the reopening of Hotel Grand Central and Chancellor Orchard (264 and 488 rooms respectively) after a redevelopment exercise.
Here's more:
In the Central Business District, we expect heightened competition within the upscale/luxury space with the opening of new international branded hotels like Sofitel So (134 rooms) and Westin SG @ Asia Square (305 rooms) in 2014, which will likely be targeted at corporate travellers.
In addition, the opening of the 386-room Carlton City Hotel just next to Tanjong Pagar MRT station is likely to impact performance of hotels in the vicinity (Amara Hotel, M Hotel).
As such, owners like CDL HT, FEHT, OUE HT and Amara Holdings, who have assets in the Orchard and CBD area, are likely to be directly impacted by these new hotel openings and will face difficulty in raising ADRs significantly in the immediate term.
