Movies, TV shows influence travel destinations of 8 in 10 Singaporeans
Jeju Island, the filming site of K-drama “Our Blues,” topped Singaporeans’ destination of choice.
Travel decisions of the majority of Singaporeans (80%) are influenced by movies and television shows, data from Skyscanner showed.
According to a Skyscanner report, Singaporean's top destinations were Jeju Island, featured in the K-drama "Our Blues," "Lord of the Rings" location, Christchurch, New Zealand, and Paris, France, the filming site of "Emily in Paris."
Apart from wanting to visit show locations, Singaporeans also travel to catch their favourite artists live (60%) and eat and try local authentic cuisine (54%).
Amongst destinations Singaporeans want to visit for a specific restaurant include Osaka, Japan.
Singaporeans also travel to sleep. According to Skyscanner, 23% of Singaporeans want to travel to be able to sleep. Sleeping also ranks higher than water sports (22%), wildlife spotting (19%) and snow sports (18%) as activities Singaporeans love to do during vacations.
In 2024, more types of Singaporean travellers will emerge, including analogue adventurers, celebration vacationers, and luxe-for-less seekers.
“In an age of always-on and constant hype, Gen Zs are tending back towards old-school analogue adventures that ditch the digital device in favour of how it used to be done,” Skyscanner said, adding that one in five (19%) Singapore travellers aged 18 to 24-years-old now bring a Polaroid camera with them on holiday.
Celebration vacations are those celebrating milestones in style. Two in three (64%) Singapore travellers have taken a group trip to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
Luxe-for-less seekers, meanwhile, kick off their trip in style. Based on the Skyscanner report, 23% of Singapore travellers plan to upgrade their flight to business or first class in 2024, whilst 25% plan to purchase airport lounge access.
