Singapore tourist numbers jump by 7.1% to 1.3m visitors
On back of more Chinese and Indian tourists.
Singapore tourism is finally showing signs of life as the city state saw its tourism receipts grow by 2% in the first quarter of 2016 to reach $5.4b.
According to a report by the Singapore Tourism Board, shopping, accommodation and Food & Beverage expenditures grew significantly.
This compensated for the fall in Sightseeing (SEG) that was due largely to the decline in gaming revenue as reported by the integrated resorts, the report said.
“Gazetted hotel room revenue was estimated at $0.8 billion for Q1 2016, a growth of 4.6 per cent year-on-year,” the report added.
However, while the average occupancy rate increased, the Revenue per Available Room (RevPar) declined by 2.3% year-on-year due to a weakened Average Room Rate (ARR).
