Tourists boost casual apparel and dining spending in Singapore
Spending on luxury apparel and fine dining also rose.
Tourists in Singapore are spending significantly more on casual apparel and casual dining in 2024, according to the newly released Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) report, "Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries."
According to the report, tourism shopping on casual apparel rose 27.4% YoY, whilst tourism spending on casual dining grew 54.7% YoY.
Tourists are also buying more luxury apparel and dining more at fine restaurants, up by 5.1% from a year ago.
Singapore is a popular destination for travellers from India and Japan, ranking second in both countries. Mastercard also expects more tourists from Mainland China due to visa exemptions.
Meanwhile, travellers from Singapore named Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Perth as top summer destinations.
