Adventure in the city: New eco-park opens in Jurong
First industrial swamp forest in 5-ha project.
The swampland meets the city in JTC CleanTech Park’s newest amenity. The Jurong Eco-Garden, which was officially opened Sunday, boasts the first freshwater swamp forest habitat among Singapore’s industrial parks.
The new eco-garden is made up of green finger branches interspersed between building parcels in JTC’s CleanTech Park. Its design will enable 65% of stormwater run-off to be retained and reused for non-potable purposes within the CleanTech Park.
Many of the features within the Jurong Eco-Garden incorporate materials from JTC’s other projects, like excavated rocks from the Jurong Rock Caverns. Wood from felled trees of the area was also reused for signages and park furniture.
According to Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, who inaugurated the park, “The varied terrain and natural features within CleanTech Park offer an opportunity for JTC to retain and enhance a portion of green space for the community’s use. We invite the community to visit the Jurong Eco-Garden and explore the greenery and enjoy the recreational amenities here.”
