
Chart of the Day: Europe tops sources of foreign direct investment in Singapore
European investors accounted for 36.7 percent or $227 billion of total foreign direct investment.
A report by the Singapore Department of Statistics said:
Europe and Asia continued to be the top sources of FDI in Singapore as at end 2010.
Collectively, European investors accounted for 36.7 per cent (or $227.0 billion) of total FDI while about 24.6 per cent (or $152.4 billion) were contributed by Asian investors. South and Central America and the Caribbean (23.0 per cent) and North America (11.1 per cent) were other major sources of investment in Singapore.
FDI from Europe were invested in the financial & insurance services ($72.5 billion) and manufacturing ($65.8 billion) sectors. Wholesale & retail trade ($46.2 billion) and transport & storage ($19.5 billion) sectors were also favoured by European investors.
The bulk of FDI from Asia were in the financial & insurance services ($73.8 billion), wholesale & retail trade ($36.3 billion) and manufacturing ($15.0 billion) sectors.
