Daily Markets Briefing: STI up 0.37%
Expect some boosts today.
The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 12.37 points or 0.37% higher to 3356.25, taking the year-to-date performance to +16.51%.
The top active stocks were DBS, which gained 0.68%, Genting Sing, which gained 4.17%, Singtel, which gained 0.80%, Global Logistic, which closed unchanged and Keppel Corp, with a 0.67% fall.
The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index declined 0.11%, whilst the FTSE ST Small Cap Index declined 0.01%.
US stocks ended mostly higher on Thursday as a fusillade of better-than-expected corporate results helped to reinvigorate Wall Street buying appetite a day after the S&P 500 and the Dow posted their biggest drops in more than seven weeks.
Nine out of 11 S&P 500 industries finished higher, led by Materials, which gained 1.36%, and Financials, which gained 0.55%, whilst Health Care, which fell 1.03%, and Real Estate, which fell 0.55%, lost ground.
"The gains on Wall Street overnight could provide a modest boost to the local bourse today," OCBC said.
