
Daily Markets Briefing: STI down 0.06%
Expect some good news today.
The Straits Times Index (STI) ended 1.89 points or 0.06% lower to 3374.08, taking the year-to-date performance to +17.12%.
The top active stocks were DBS, which gained 1.07%, OCBC Bank, which declined 0.34%, Singtel, which declined 0.79%, UOB, which declined 0.45% and Keppel Corp, with a 0.66% fall.
The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index gained 0.48%, whilst the FTSE ST Small Cap Index rose 0.06%.
According to OCBC Investment Research, US stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq ending at a record and major indexes overall wrapping up a strong October as quarterly results kept equities drifting near all-time highs.
Seven out of 11 S&P 500 industries finished higher, led by Consumer Staples, which rose 0.84%, and Information Technology, which rose 0.39%, whilst Industrials, which fell 0.41%, and Financials, which fell 0.28%, led the declines.
"The rebound on Wall Street overnight could provide a lift to local sentiment today," OCBC said.
