Market Update: Singapore shares fall on Thursday trade

The Straits Times Index shed about 21.89 points or 0.75%, ending Thursday's trade at 2,905.58.

Most Asian stocks also closed in the red as optimism among investors gradually faded out.

About 2.34-billion securities worth S$1.2-billion changed hands, with decliners outnumbering advancers, 283 to 183.

Worst performers were Thai Beverage with a 2.45% or S$0.02 loss, UOL, which lowered by 2.39% or S$0.19, and Singtel which went down by S$0.05 or 2.11%.

On Wall Street, most US stocks closed on a positive note, boosted by energy and communications stocks as well as some corporate earnings.

For the day, the S&P 500 rose at about 1.09% or 41.57 points at 3,871.74. The NASDAQ went up by 1.23% or 167.20 points to 13,777.74, while the Dow Jones Industrial climbed by 332.26 points or 1.08% at 31,055.86.

London's blue-chip index slipped for the day, down by 0.06% or 4.10 points ending at 6,503.72.

Meanwhile, the FTSE 250 went higher by 0.27% or 56.86 points at 20,809.30.
