Market Update: STI ends Wednesday trade up by 0.35%

The Straits Times Index made a slight uptick of about 10.18 points or 0.35%, to end the day's trade at 2,927.47.

Hopes for a stimulus package from the US Congress and the continued vaccine rollouts across the region boosted major Asian indices for the day.

About 2.35-billion securities worth S$1.29-billion changed hands with decliners outnumbering advancers, 269 to 203.

Top performers were Mapletree Logistics with 2.60% or a S$0.05 gain, Jardine Strategic jumped by 2.54% or US$0.65, and DairyFarm which went higher by US$0.09 or 2.07%.

On Wall Street, most US stocks closed on positive note as investor jitters on retail trading frenzy further eased.

For the day, the S&P 500 rose at about 0.10% or 3.77 points to 3,830.08. The NASDAQ went down by 0.02% or 2.23 points to 13,610.54, while the Dow Jones Industrial climbed by 36.12 points or 0.12% to 20,723.60.

London's blue-chip index slipped, dragged by healthcare stocks. Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline expects a big drop on 2021 earnings as the pandemic continues.

The FTSE 100 closed at 6,507.82, down by about 0.14% or 8.83 points.

Meanwhile, the FTSE 250 also went higher by 0.30% or 62.23 points at 20,752.44.
