Here's how you can maximise your brand's Facebook timeline
By Carmen BenitezFacebook has gone through many major design changes throughout the recent months. First, we had to adjust our personal profile experience to the Facebook Timeline, which opened up more pictures and chronicled our lives faster and easier through images, video and content.
Then as that took off, we saw Facebook shift again, but this time for business when they introduced the Timeline for Business Brand Pages. Again, the user experience had to adjust to seeing brands literally come to life through images and apps (and less on content).
It turns out that Facebook bet right. 95% of Facebook brand pages noted an improvement in user experience as reported by TechCrunch. In fact, the cover image and the apps were the most widely viewed sections of a Facebook brand page once Timeline was launched (Eye Tracker Study, Mashable April 2012).
Now that Facebook has launched as a publicly traded company, new changes keep coming! One of the favorites I have noted is how they’ve manipulated a person’s personal profile name link to have the look and feel of a business card!
This is great for personal brands who still publicly show their personal profile to the wide world of Facebook. See this great snapshot of how Allen Cook, one very gifted photographer is using the new personal profile timeline to his advantage.
And for business pages? It is even better! Check out this great business name card for Men’s Health Singapore:
So, tips on maximising this great opportunity to get your business better viewed?
Step 1: Your cover image is an absolute must! Make it stand out keep it very clean and legible.
Step 2: Make sure your Facebook brand page icon is very clean and focused on YOUR logo.
Step 3: Fill out the About section on your Facebook business page to include the Name of your Business (or use the name of your business website) and a clean description of what it is about.
So, does a picture say a thousand words? Well on Facebook... it now says a thousand words to an audience of 900 million worldwide. Take advantage of it.
