Adventus Singapore employs virtualisation technology, wins IT Services Award
The ICT services provider proposed a winning solution for a property group’s computing requirements.
Adventus Singapore Pte Ltd won in the IT Services category of Singapore Business Review's National Business Awards 2019, which honours exceptional homegrown businesses in Singapore. The information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider has seen success in upgrading the technology suite of companies, including the implementation of a virtualisation platform to reduce costs and bolster performance.
A recent success story was Adventus Singapore’s collaboration with integrated property group Soilbuild to refresh its IT infrastructure, enabling the latter to smoothly migrate to a cost-reducing, performance-enhancing new system powered by virtualisation technology. Prior to the engagement, Soilbuild was running their business applications on a fleet of physical servers. However, upon consultation, Adventus Singapore recommended a move towards a hybrid approach of upgrading some physical servers and migrating all production servers as virtual machines onto virtual hosts.
The minor technology upgrades made to 65% of Soilbuild’s physical servers resulted in a 35% reduction in the hardware it needed to run its business applications, and a net effect of 30% annual cost savings on hardware depreciation. Upgrades were done by increasing the storage capacity by 50% and RAM by 100%.
Adventus Singapore’s plan also enabled the property group to repurpose 35% of its fleet of servers to another key improvement project, backup and disaster recovery infrastructure. “This saved Soilbuild the need to purchase additional hardware for that project, achieving huge cost savings for that project,” said Adventus Singapore.
As Soilbuild embraced virtualisation technology upon Adventus Singapore’s recommendation, it was able to squeeze out further cost savings whilst also improving availability. “Comparing with the solution of using physical servers to achieve high availability of their systems, that requires the doubling of their hardware investments, this solution has generated huge cost savings,” commented Adventus, adding that the license fee-free solution relieved Soilbuild from paying expensive annual licensing fees.
Adventus Singapore’s solution also significantly enhanced performance, with Soilbuild achieving high availability for their production servers as the risks associated with a single point of failure had been eliminated. “If one server went down, all the business applications running on that server would stop running,” noted Adventus Singapore. The ICT solutions provider also leveraged on its specialised tools and proprietary processes to ensure only minutes of downtime during migration, ensuring minimal disruption on the production servers.
“Adventus has proven themselves to be a trustworthy system integrator that applies cutting-edge technologies intelligently and adds enormous value to their clients, concluded Tan Chee Yong, assistant manager of Soilbuild Group Holdings Ltd, adding that unlike competitors that simply pushed for popular solutions, Adventus focused instead on delivering the right solutions for their needs.
