Top marketers crown SPH as mobile marketing innovator

Won four awards at inaugural MOB-Ex Awards.

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) made a clean sweep in the 'Best App/Content by a Media Owner' category, with The Business Times clinching a Gold, SPH UnionWorks clinching a Silver and The Straits Times clinching a Bronze. The Straits Times also won a Silver in the 'Best User Experience' category.

The Straits Times and The Business Times apps were developed to feature content in three different editions – free breaking news for real-time updates throughout the day, print edition which incorporates news stories from the physical copy of the papers with optimised reading experience from mobile devices, as well as the PDF edition of the physical paper for readers who prefer the ‘hard copy look’ on their mobile devices.

The MOB-Ex Awards is organised by Marketing Magazine, and is the first of its kind in Singapore to recognise leading contributors to the market’s vibrant mobile marketing ecosystem. It also honours organisations that have pushed the limits towards measurable success via the mobile platform through campaign strategies and mobile marketing programmes.

Mr Felix Soh, Digital Media Editor of the English Malay Newspaper Division, said: “The awards are an affirmation of the quality, appeal and positive user experience of our mobile apps. We have recognised very early that mobile is the way to go in reaching and engaging audiences. All credit for the success of our mobile products must go to the creativity and hard work of our mobile, online, design and technical teams."

The HOT FM91.3, UFM100.3 and Kiss92 apps are the first radio streaming apps in Singapore to introduce direct social interaction with DJs and the radio brands. All three apps feature a host of interactive features for users such as the ‘Rate the Hits’ function. All three apps have seen a steady increase in downloads and usage. The HOT FM91.3 app has more than 200,000 downloads to date while the UFM100.3 app has over 100,000 downloads. Its latest addition, Kiss92, has garnered more than 80,000 downloads.

Ms Goh Wee Wang, General Manager of SPH UnionWorks, said:"We're delighted that our mobile apps have won the Silver award in the ‘Best App/Content’ category. The apps were developed with our listeners in mind – allowing listeners to tune in to their favourite stations on the go, to interact with us, engage in our content as well as acting as a direct feedback channel to let us know what music they love to hear so that we can play more of it."

The winners were decided by a distinguished panel of judges, including top marketers from Visa, DBS Bank, Adobe and SingTel as well as agency professionals from Taggo and Mobile Marketing Association.
