City Energy, Gentari to study hydrogen importation to Singapore from Malaysia

The partnership will provide support to Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy.

Singapore’s gas utility provider City Energy and Malaysia-based clean energy solutions provider, Gentari, signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of a hydrogen supply chain from Malaysia to Singapore.

In a joint statement, City Energy and Gentari said the collaboration, which will support Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy, will allow City Energy to explore alternate hydrogen sources.

City Energy is one of the largest last-mile carriers of hydrogen in Singapore as hydrogen is the largest component in town gas produced at its Gasworks plant.

Gentari, meanwhile, targets to produce up to 1.2 million tonnes of clean hydrogen annually to cater to the increase in clean energy demand.

It said the partnership will accelerate the adoption of clean hydrogen as an energy source.
