DBS PayLah! enables QR payments in 45 markets through UnionPay

Users can now pay with QR code in one of UnionPay’s 31 million retailers worldwide.

DBS PayLah! users can now scan to pay with UnionPay’s QR code payment network, the bank announced in a press release.

UnionPay has approximately 31 million brick-and-mortar retailers across 45 markets, including Singapore, China, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand.

“With UnionPay QR Code payment now available to DBS PayLah! users, this will be the first instance of Singapore consumers being able to use a local app to perform QR Code payments overseas– and with 31 million retailers to boot,” said Anthony Seow, head of payments & platforms, DBS Consumer Banking Group (Singapore).

The bank has been making technological strides in the past weeks. For its LiveBetter service, DBS added a carbon calculator to help investors calculate their carbon footprints.

DBS had also announced five new platform partnerships to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) digitize and enhance their supply chain capabilities.
