MTI and EMA seek feedback on energy legislation changes

The public consultation will end on 5 June.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and the Energy Market Authority (EMA) have launched a public consultation on the proposed amendments to the EMA Act, Electricity Act, and Gas Act.

The public can share feedback on the proposed changes from 8 May to 5 June.

EMA and MTI said the proposed amendments will support Singaproe's energy transition whilst ensuring "energy security and cost competitiveness."

"To achieve Singapore’s net zero target, we will need to decarbonise the power sector by 2050. Developing different decarbonisation pathways such as electricity imports and hydrogen will involve significant investment," the government bodies said.

"Singapore’s energy landscape has evolved significantly over the last 50 years and will continue to evolve in aspects such as the regulation of energy markets and energy infrastructure planning. Hence, we will need to enhance the current regulatory regime to support the nation’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050," MTI and EMA added.
