Singapore and Netherlands sign MOU to boost climate science research

The partners will establish a technical support unit in their respective countries.

Singapore and the Netherlands signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to support international climate science research.

Under the MOU, the partners will establish the Technical Support Unit (TSU) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability.

Both countries have secured premises and are providing funds for staff and research for the two TSU offices in their respective countries.

The two TSUs will provide scientific, technical, operational, and communications support to IPCC’s Working Group II in its Seventh Assessment Report Cycle (AR7).

The collaboration began following the election of Professor Winston Chow from Singapore Management University and Professor Bart van den Hurk from Deltares as Co-Chairs of IPCC Working Group II during the July 2023 IPCC Bureau elections in Nairobi, Kenya.

The IPCC is the UN's authority for evaluating climate change science, its impacts, future risks, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
