Singapore reminds car dealers to remove warranty restrictions

The regulator also warned car dealers to avoid misleading customers.

The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) told car dealers to remove restrictions on warranties.

CCCS said it is still receiving some reports about car dealers imposing restrictions on their warranties despite the written warning it sent out earlier this year.

In February, the regulator ordered car dealers to remove warranty restrictions that require customers to have the repairs and other services done exclusively at the car dealer’s authorised workshops.

CCCS also warned car dealers to avoid misleading customers about their warranty rights.

“CCCS will not hesitate to take enforcement action to ensure that the relevant markets remain competitive, and that consumers are protected from unfair practices in Singapore,” it said.
