A year after the war: 4 in 10 Singaporeans want economic actions imposed on Russia
They also said paying more for fuel and gas will be worthwhile to defend another country.
Almost half of Singaporeans (41%) said economic actions on Russia are necessary to encourage the country to end the war with Ukraine, even if it means that energy and food prices will remain higher for a while, an Ipsos study revealed.
A similar percentage (45%) of Singaporeans said they will also support Singapore applying the most stringent economic sanctions against Russia.
Forty-two per cent will likewise support limiting or restricting imports of oil and gas from Russia even if this leads to steep increases in energy and food prices, with more than half (56%) saying that paying more for fuel and gas because of sanctions against Russia is worthwhile to defend another sovereign country.
Few (21%) Singaporeans, however, say otherwise, adding that sanctions on Russia aren’t worth the economic impact they are having in Singapore on energy and food prices.
Some (44%) also said the problems of Ukraine are none of Singapore’s business, and that the government should not interfere.
Many Singaporeans (62%) also think that Singapore cannot afford to lend financial support to Ukraine given the current economic crisis.
