Singaporeans complain more about work life balance than rest of Asia.
15 % of Singapoerans were worried about work life balance. This percentage was higher than the Asia Pacific average of 12 %.
Other concerns in the Nielsen report include rising food prices, which was ranked 4th in terms of biggest concerns for Singapore consumers in Q4 2010, and rose to the second place in Q1 2011, named by 13 %of consumers. At the Asia Pacific level, 20 % of online consumers rated rising food prices as their biggest concern, which also tops the list of concerns across the region.
Consumer Confidence
Singapore is ranked 7th most confident country globally as its Consumer Confidence Index stabilized at 109 index points.
At the Asia Pacific level, consumer confidence reached 107 – its highest score on record. Confidence in Asia was boosted by continuing high employment, which is energizing consumers to spend again.
Consumers Ready to Spend
Nearly one in two online (45%) consumers said that now is right time for them to buy the things that they want, up 2 percentage points over Q4 2010.
After covering essential living expense, three-quarters (74%) will put their spare cash into savings, an increase of 9 percentage points quarter-on-quarter. Spending categories high on consumers’ list of things to do with spare cash include: spending on holidays/vacations (55% indicated they would do so) and investments in shares of stock/mutual funds (38%, up 5 percentage points).
