Science Centre Singapore Tan Yen Yen as Chairman

Ms Tan was the former Chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation.

The Science Centre Singapore announced the appointment of Ms Tan Yen Yen, 46 as its new Chairman, with effect from 1st February 2012. She will be succeeding Mr Wee Heng Tin who will be retiring after 4 years of dedicated service to the Board.

As Chairman, Ms Tan will lead Science Centre Singapore’s Board in shaping the Centre for further development and in strengthening the Centre’s relationships with various stakeholders and partners.

Ms Tan will play a pivotal role in charting the directions for the Centre as it moves forward with the aim of positioning the Science Centre as a champion for Edutainment and an alternate classroom for schools to encourage lifelong learning for all.

To achieve this, the Board will embark on a path of reinvention. On the global front, the Science Centre will proactively bring in impactful international conferences and events to the nation, such as the Asia Pacific Network of Science & Technology Centres (ASPAC) Annual Conference and Tradeshow 2012.

Locally, the Centre aims to extend the reach of its own signature events by engaging external and global partners in events such as the Singapore Science Festival and the inaugural Singapore International Science Festival in 2013. The Centre will be working with many agencies, including statutory boards and private corporations to develop new engaging exhibits for visitors too.

Ms Tan, presently the Senior Vice President of Applications at Oracle Asia Pacific, will continue her responsibilities for managing the company’s applications software business across the Asia Pacific region. In this capacity, she is responsible for driving Oracle Applications’ revenue, growth, and client satisfaction.

The Centre is privileged to be able to tap on Ms Tan’s vast experience as former Chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation. In addition, she is a member of the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) board. Ms Tan also sits on the Board of Advisors of Singapore Management University's School of Information Systems, National University of Singapore's School of Computing, Singapore Institute of Management's International Academic Panel, and Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Engineering. With her illustrious background in the IT industry and vast experience in corporate governance, Ms Tan’s leadership will be invaluable to the Centre.

Ms Tan holds a degree in Computer Science from National University of Singapore and an Executive MBA degree from the Helsinki School of Economics Executive Education, according to a Science Centre Singapore report.

Science Centre expresses its utmost appreciation to Mr Wee Heng Tin for his distinguished service to the board. A Board member since February 2007, the Centre has received various accolades and achieved many accomplishments including record visitorship numbers under Mr Wee’s leadership.
