Securities turnover up 22% in August

It is the highest growth since March 2022.

Total securities market turnover value in August rose 22% year-on-year (YoY) to $28.8b, the highest since March 2022, SGX reported.

Securities daily average value (DAV) climbed 28% YoY to $1.4b.

Derivatives traded volume rose 4% YoY to 24.6 million contracts, with daily average volume up 8% YoY at 1.1 million contracts.

SGX noted that elevated volatility early in the month boosted trading in equity derivatives and set a record for FX futures volume.

Turnover of exchange-traded funds (ETF) increased 16% MoM to $332m rising 38%, with 221 million shares.

Market turnover value of structured warrants decreased 19% to $232m whilst daily average certificates declined 39% to $225m.

Meanwhile, the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) declined 0.4% MoM to 3,442.93 in August and generated a year-to-date price return of 6.7%.
