Office in the sky: How’s having a meeting in the clouds?
Check out ACL Asia Pacific’s Cumulonimbus, Altostratus and Cirrus rooms.
Located at the 28th floor of the JTC Summit in Jurong East, the ACL Asia Pacific headquarters boasts of a spectacular view of Jurong Country Club’s 18-hole golf course mixed with the modern landscape of the West’s towering buildings.
According to Karyn Flores, regional marketing manager of ACL Asia and the head of the project team behind the new ACL APAC HQ, the office embodies its vision and mission while fuelling the growth of its products, customers and talent.
Representing technology and cloud innovations with a mix of Canadian influences, ACL’s new headquarters features Picasso imagery spread across the office. The imagery is said to urge ACL’s leaders and talent to think outside the box. While the HQ has a lot of playful colours, offering a modern and inspiring workplace, it highlights an all-white, avant-garde reception table stands amongst the wooden floors that cuts through the receiving area, while the common work place is dominated by splashes of Purple, Green and Grey, embracing the corporate brand colours. Meanwhile, the carpets in the meeting rooms, for instance, are a mix of black and purple but contrasted with all-white modern office furniture. According to Karyn, the overall design of the office is not too busy, just enough to highlight the key elements in each space.
Embracing the company’s Canadian heritage, maple trees and purple moose can be found around the office’s pantry, which creates a playful feel that is made even more enticing by the “grass” floors, bean bag, swing and state-of-the art pantry essentials. The Project Team also installed a pool table located on the other side of the office which aimed to encourages the employees to work hard but also to have fun once in a while.
Being a cloud company, ACL’s meeting rooms are named after the cloud types – Cumulonimbus, Altostratus and Cirrus. While the Manager’s wall-to-wall glass rooms are named after strong constellations such as Phoenix, Draco, Orion and Aquila. Standing among the spacious common area are three wooden panels with ACL’s three values painted on it – Disruptive Innovation, Customer Intensity and Authenticity.
According to Karyn, the Project Team behind the new HQ decided not to hire an interior designer but rely on their own creativity, so there were times when the big ideas of the team became quite challenging to execute. Instances like they have to decide on something, they would just based it on discussion and voting, that includes all of the team members’ input.
“Through discussions the team was able to find the best ways to realize its ideas and build trust and confidence in their decisions, which were then reflected in the final voting,” said Karyn.
The Project Team worked closely together under the supervision of Asia Pacific Managing Director Eric Lim. Regional marketing manager, Karyn herself acted as the head of the project team and drove the development of different designs. The final decision was reached through team members’ votes of the Project Team, which also included marketing specialist Maurice Guloy, who contributed to and executed design ideas.
