Say goodbye to 2G handsets

New SIM cards will only support 3G and 4G services by Nov15.

To ensure mobile users migrate in time for the closure of 2G networks next April, newly issued prepaid SIM cards in Singapore will not support 2G handsets from 15 November 2016, a joint statement by M1, Singtel and StarHub said.

Customers purchasing prepaid SIM cards will be kept informed of this progressively at point-of-sale and other channels.

While all existing prepaid SIM cards will not be affected, the three telco operator urge customers to upgrade to 3G or 4G-capable handsets early.

"A wide range of 3G and 4G handsets are available at retailers across the island to enable customers to make the transition to 3G/4G networks," it said.
