SingPost launches model for smart stamp, letterbox system
The company hopes to optimise its post delivery service.
SingPost has unveiled prototypes of a new smart stamp and letterbox system that will enable residents to track down their mail and retrieve packages using facial recognition and other authentication methods.
Revealed during the Home Delivery Asia conference and exhibition at the Suntec Convention Centre, the letterboxes will also be fitted with a touchscreen interface that will arrange and dispose of letters and packages inserted by postmen into its slots.
The new stamps will be embedded with data matrix codes that will contain information about the sender and the receiver, and will notify the recipient when their mail arrives.
This comes after the postal service’s failed attempt to sell its US-based e-commerce business. The company rejected all bids and later filed for relief under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code.
