SingTel’s Optus bags exclusive broadcast rights to Barclays Premier League
It won broadcast coverage for three seasons.
A step closer to being a mobile-led multimedia company, Singtel’s wholly owned subsidiary Optus has won the bid for the Australian rights to the Barclays Premier League, starting in August 2016.
According to a statement by Optus, the deal includes live broadcast coverage and digital rights for both broadband and mobile for all of the Premier League’s 380 games and every season.
With about 930 million followers worldwide, the League is one of the most sought after properties for sports content providers, Optus said.
“Today’s announcement is a great win for Optus and will ensure that Aussie football fans can watch all the action from the world’s most popular football league,” said Allen Lew, CEO of Optus.
