Analysts are worried about Starhub's unlimited weekend data plan

It is priced $5.10 higher compared to previous packages.

StarHub launched postpaid mobile packages as a response to the incoming entry of TPG as the fourth mobile operator in Singapore.

According to UOB Kay Hian, the telco has included unlimited weekend data plans, which are priced $5.10 higher compared to previous packages.

However, it is feared that the higher average revenue per user (ARPU) would not be enough to stop the continuous erosion in the contributions from international roaming.

The launch of unlimited weekend data plans is unlikely to cause network congestion as the population is more evenly spread out during the weekends, unlike the concentration of workers in the Central Business District (CBD) during the weekdays.

Moreover, customers are usually at home for the weekend and have access to WiFi.

"Customers are also unlikely to change their lifestyle or increase data usage in response to unlimited data over the weekends," UOB Kay Hian analyst Jonathan Koh said.
