Androids slowly taking over Singapore telcos' phone line-up

They make up over 50% of phones.

According to CIMB, 1Q13 sector EBITDA margins were up 6% qoq, mainly from lower subscriber acquisition costs (SAC) qoq and a lower composition of lower-margin ICT revenue and equipment sales.

Going forward, CIMB expects handset subsidies to have a softer impact on sector EBITDA margins given the better economics of Android sales vs iPhone sales.

Here's more from CIMB:

All three telcos reported that Android devices now make up more than 50% of their phones sold whereas iPhones were dominant in the past.

However, margins could come under pressure again towards the end of the year when Apple launches its latest model for the iPhone.
