Is the game of telcos a two-way fight between MyRepublic and TPG?
Little is known about the third aspirant, AirYotta.
The battle between the three telco aspirants wanting a space in the industry has already commenced, but for analysts the bid seems a two-way fight between MyRepublic and TPG Telecom.
According to Gregory Yap of Maybank Kim Eng research firm, only little is known about the third aspirant AirYotta, which is linked to OMGTel.
"Media reports indicate that it is led by two former executives of OMGTel," he said.
Yap argued that of the three applicants, MyRepublic and TPG may stand a better chance of being qualified with the former already competing in the Singapore broadband market while the latter is already established in Australia.
Yap said TPG has already been known to the land down under for its low-cost model as a broadband, IPTV and mobile service provider.
MyRepublic, on the other hand, has already garnered over 55,000 subscribers in the city-state as an upstart ISP and broadband network operator.
"Arguably, IDA should be more confident in these two established players relative to a newly set-up company," he said.
IDA will review the aspiring telco's expressions of interest (EoI) and decide after a month who will get the reserved spectrum and operate as a mobile network operator.
