Here’s why Singtel is banking on the Pokémon Go craze to catch up with competitors
Its average data consumption is lowest among incumbents.
To be the best telco in Singapore, Singtel should catch up with the average data consumption of its peers, and analysts say the popularity of Pokémon Go may be what the telco needed.
According to a report by Maybank Kim Eng, its average data consumption is 2.6 GB, the lowest among the three telcos.
“A data boost from the launch of Pokemon Go in Singapore is another potential catalyst,” the report said.
Meanwhile, mobile data growth was Singtel’s biggest theme across markets, mitigating declining voice and roaming revenue, according to Maybank Kim Eng.
“In Enterprise, cyber security revenue topped SGD100m per quarter following the acquisition of Trustwave. Mix-wise, Enterprise is now 40% of group revenue, up from 36% a year ago. Group EBITDA margin improved YoY and QoQ on lower handset sales and acquisition costs,” the report noted.
