Here’s why telco incumbents aren’t stressing over the looming spectrum auction
There’s a good chance the market could remain status quo.
Analysts are expecting the imminent fourth telco to shake things up in Singapore’s telecommunications scene which has been long dominated by its telco triumvirate.
However, according to a report by OCBC, there is a good chance that the mobile market could remain business as usual for the incumbents, due to fund-raising difficulties.
OCBC added that the problems in raising funds not only include the bidding for the 4G spectrum, but also the costs of rolling out the network across the island.
“Some industry watchers note that the market may not need to wait for the actual auction as the hopefuls would need to submit a business plan to the authorities soon (likely before the end of Jul) to know the outcome,” OCBC said.
