Free streaming is still all the rage, however.

It’s the season Singaporeans have been waiting for, and a more locals are looking to spend the holidays plopping in bed with their laptop, and binging on your favorite shows.

According to a survey by Paywizard, 44% of consumers are planning to subscribe to a paid Internet TV service this Christmas such as StarHub Go and Viki.

However, the survey highlights that the Online TV craze may be just a Christmas thing, as 2 in 3 (65%) Singaporeans plan to cancel their paid Internet TV subscription within 12 months.

“It is clear that paid Internet TV services may need to do more to attract and keep consumers in a highly competitive market,” the survey said.

Meanwhile, there’s still no discounting the strength of free streaming services with a third (33%) of Singaporeans planning to use free streaming websites and 68% favouring free TV channels.

The survey also showed that Singaporeans are getting used to smaller screens for their TV viewing, with over half planning to use a mobile phone to watch TV this Christmas.

“Furthermore, consumers in Singapore are the most likely to watch TV on a laptop at 38%, compared to the survey average of 29%,” the survey said.
