M1 to unveil 4G service price plans on 15 September

This is the first in South East Asia.

M1 Limited (M1) today announced the launch of its nationwide 4G service – the first in South East Asia, to be made available from 15 September 2012.

M1’s 4G service, operating on its advanced dual band network in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum, will encompass both street level and in-building coverage. With M1’s 4G network, mobile users will be able to enjoy faster data access on their smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, with theoretical download speeds of up to 75Mbps, and typical download speeds at fixed locations ranging from 6.9Mbps to 17.4Mbps.

This will provide retail and business customers an enhanced experience especially on rich multimedia applications such as high definition video streaming, online gaming, as well as enable business customers faster access to cloud applications on-the-go.

“We are excited to be the first in South East Asia to offer nationwide 4G service. This launch marks another ‘first’ in M1’s milestones, which includes being the first to commercially launch nationwide 3G mobile service in February 2005, mobile broadband service in December 2006, as well as 4G service within the financial district in June 2011. We will continue to drive innovation in our network and services to ensure our customers consistently enjoy a better experience with us,” said Ms Karen Kooi, Chief Executive Officer, M1 Limited.

A first with 4G roaming
Customers on M1’s 4G network will be able to enjoy 4G roaming services in Hong Kong with our partner, SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Limited. More countries and operators will be added in the near future.

New smartphone and mobile broadband service plans
M1 also announced that it will introduce new smartphone and mobile broadband service plans, in conjunction with its 4G service launch.

With the new data bundles starting from 2GB per month, the majority of customers will not incur higher charges. 78% of smartphone users consume less than 2GB of mobile data per month and 93% less than 5GB of mobile data per month. For customers who use beyond bundled allowances, excess data will be priced at an affordable $5.35 per GB.

Furthermore, re-contracting M1 customers will be given an additional 1GB of complimentary data bundle on the new smartphone and mobile broadband plans.

M1’s new smartphone and mobile broadband service plans will be made available to all new and re-contracting customers from 15 September 2012.

At launch, 4G devices that will be available include handsets: Samsung GALAXY Note LTE, Samsung GALAXY SII LTE, HTC One XL and LG Optimus True HD LTE; tablets: ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TL and Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE; USB modem: Huawei E392, and mobile Wi-Fi modem: Huawei E589.

Live Demonstration
Customers can experience live demonstration of the amazing 4G service at M1’s flagship shop at Paragon from 6 September 2012. At the Live 4G demo-zone, customers will be able to test out new 4G handsets and tablets on M1’s 4G network, and experience first-hand, the next generation mobile experience.
