SingTel expects MCI to decide on BPL broadcasting spat by July
Mechanics of content acquisition still hazy.
According to Nomura, SingTel is currently appealing the recent MDA ruling to crosscarry BPL (Barclay Premier League) with StarHub, despite it acquiring this on a non-exclusive basis. It expects a decision in July this year.
The mechanics of how the content is acquired (or the price) and what are the terms and conditions in the event of sharing remain unclear.
Here's more from Nomura:
SingTel stated that it is possible that the original content acquisition cost could be shared with StarHub (as per the appeal process) and/or is looking at ways of minimizing the impact by looking at various initiatives such as bundling BPL with other content.
As per content cross carriage regulations, if the qualified content is bundled with any other content, then the entire bundle needs to be cross carried.
