Singtel-owned Opus’ Australian court proceedings commence

ACMA alleged that Optus committed 3.6 million data breaches.

The trial on Optus Mobile’s alleged 2022 data breach has commenced in the Federal Court of Australia, the company announced Friday.

A unit of Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), the telco operator reiterated that it will defend these proceedings which were filed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) against the company in May.

ACMA alleged that Optus committed 3.6 million breaches of the Australian Telecommunications Act 1979 during the cyber attack in September 2022.

Optus said it is aware that only 10,200 customers were affected by the attack where their personal information was published on the internet.

The firm stressed that it had taken significant straps to minimize harm to its customers, including working with the police and other authorities
