SingTel's SingNet slapped with S$80,000 penalty
This is for the MioTV disruptions in October and November 2011.
In an announcement, the Media Development Authority (MDA) has fined SingNet S$80,000 for Mio TV disruptions which occurred in October and November 2011.
The 28 and 29 October 2011 disruption affected some subscribers in Pasir Ris, Changi and Tampines. Another incident occurred on 4 November and affected subscribers in Bukit Panjang, Woodlands and Bukit Timah. In total, about 850 Mio TV customers were affected.
As a Nationwide Subscription Television Service Licensee, SingNet is required to comply with licence conditions on Quality of Service (QoS), which requires pay-TV services to be provided at reasonable quality that meets public expectations and is satisfactory to the MDA. MDA thus finds SingNet to be in contravention of its QoS licence conditions, and has imposed a financial penalty of $80,000.
Since the disruptions, MDA has noted SingNet's commitment in implementing measures to upgrade its infrastructure to prevent a recurrence.
MDA’s investigation into a separate Mio TV service disruption which occurred on 13 May 2012 is still ongoing.
