Starhub and NTT DOCOMO bring Open Radio Access Network to Singapore

The Open RAN lets enterprises customise radios and base stations to fit their needs.

Starhub has conducted Singapore's inaugural Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) call on its 5G network under its collaboration with NTT DOCOMO.

Compared to traditional Radio Access Networks, the Open RAN approach allows enterprises to customise components like radios and base stations to suit their specific needs.

Keysight Technologies validated the Open RAN using its UeSIM UE Emulation RAN Solutions, which emulate real network traffic. StarHub’s Open RAN passed the validation of DOCOMO OREX packages, confirming its readiness for market adoption.

StarHub’s Open RAN achieved a downlink and uplink throughput of up to 1.295Gbps and 73.5Mbps respectively, with an average latency of 15ms, establishing its consumer readiness.
