StarHub, SUTD partner for Open Radio Access Network implementation
The ORAN technology will streamline the development of RAN-related applications.
StarHub has signed a research collaboration agreement with the Singapore University of Technology (SUTD) to lead the Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) implementation.
The collaboration, announced at the Mobile World Congress 2024, involves joint trials and demonstrations within the Future Communications Connectivity Lab (FCCLab).
The FCCLab, supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority and National Research Foundation Singapore, focuses on future-proofing Singapore’s communication capabilities.
“Singapore is set to enhance its technological infrastructure, and through this collaboration, we strive to enable more use cases for ORAN, allowing for new heights in network agility, scalability and innovation,” said Ayush Sharma, chief technology officer of StarHub.
StarHub will provide engineers, specialists, and relevant network equipment for ORAN implementation and trials.
The ORAN technology will streamline the development of RAN-related applications, including AI and ML-based radio optimization and power-saving applications.
StarHub and SUTD will implement a 5G packet gateway at SUTD premises, bringing the core network closer to end-users.
