SingTel out, SIA in: Singapore Grand Prix finds new big time sponsor
6-year partnership comes to an end.
After six years of partnership with the Formula One Group, Singtel hits the brakes as it ceases to be the biggest title sponsor of the Singapore Grand Prix this year. Singtel will be replaced by Singapore Airlines (SIA) who announced the new agreement this morning. In a statement, SIA said this year’s event will be named the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix and will take place from 19-21 September at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
“We are thrilled to be taking up the title sponsorship of one of the most exciting races on the F1 calendar, and we are especially pleased to be doing so in the lead-up to Singapore’s 50th birthday next year,” said Goh Choon Phong, SIA CEO.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Singapore Business Review, Allen Lew, Country Chief Officer, SingTel Singapore, said “It has been an honour for SingTel to have been title sponsor of the Singapore Grand Prix since the inaugural night race in 2008. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to showcase Singapore to the world, strengthening SingTel as a global brand and bringing the Formula One closer to Singaporeans with our activities, heartland roadshows and SingTel Grid Girls."
He described the six-year relationship with the event organizers as a ‘fantastic partnership’ and stressed that Singtel will look forward to seeing another Singapore brand take over the reins.
