SMRT to convert taxi fleet to electric in five years
SMRT would be the first point-to-point transport operator to deploy electric taxis on a large scale.
Public transportation service provider SMRT plans to convert all of its taxi fleet to electric taxis in the next five years.
This project is under its sustainable urban mobility services arm, Strides Mobility, as a part of its commitment to the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
"In line with Singapore’s Green Plan, we are excited to be among the first point-to-point transport operators to commit to the deployment of electric taxis on a large scale. This is a key part of our plan to incorporate principles of sustainability into each of our businesses to bring sustainable urban mobility services to our customers," said SMRT Road Holdings President Tan Kian Heong.
The first batch of electric taxis is slated to arrive in July.
Its taxi fleet has been 100% hybrid since 2020.
