SMRT unveils plans to provide electrical systems for land transport
It will be through a joint venture with Cyclect.
As it aims to be one of the electrical systems provider for land transportation, SMRT Corporation Ltd. has entered a joint venture (JV) agreement with electrical, mechanical, and automation solutions provider Cyclect Electrical Engineering Pte. Ltd.
SMRT's wholly-owned subsidiary SMRT Services Pte. Ltd. will team up with Cyclect to set up the SMRT-Cyclect Power Pte. Ltd.
SMRT-Cyclect Power will be focusing on electrical systems for land transportation relating to various transport segments.
Among the transportation segments the JV company wishes to provide services for are rail systems, which include both the Mass Rapid Transit and the Light Rail Transit system.
It will also deal with infrastructure for electric power systems or networks for electric cars and buses, electric autonomous vehicles and electric personal mobility devices and system design and high voltage electrical infrastructure for ports.
According to SMRT, the core business of the JV company will be carried out not only in ASEAN countries but also to Australia, and New Zealand. The two groups are also in the talks to roll out services potentially in Africa, China, and India.
