5-km long Marina Coastal Expressway on track to open by year-end
It'll include a 3.6km underground tunnel.
According to an update by Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) is ready to open by end of this year. Visiting the MCE control centre last Thursday, the Transport Minister said all structural works for the expressway are already completed
"While the Government will continue to develop the road network where possible, this will largely be to facilitate the movement of buses and provide access to new developments. We will need to continue relying on vehicle ownership and usage restraint measures to manage traffic congestion," he said.
As stated by the Land Transport Authority, the MCE will connect the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and East Coast Parkway (ECP) in the east to the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) in the west, with direct connections to the Marina South and Straits View areas.
Also, the dual five-lane, 5km long expressway will support the large number of commuters who travel to offices, homes and attractions in the Marina Bay area.
Meanwhile, the 3.6km underground tunnel will comprises a 420-metre section that crosses under the Marina Bay Channel seabed.
