The underground train line will serve daily ridership of more than 600,000.
The construction of the first phase of the 50-kilometre Cross Island Line (CRL), the longest and eighth line, begins and will be completed by 2030, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) revealed.
In a statement, LTA said the first phase will include 12 stations which will serve Loyang, Hougang, and Ang Mo Kio.
Expected daily ridership will be more than 600,000 in the initial years from 2030 and will be up to 1 million in the longer term.
CRL Bright Hill station will be connected to a new Transit Priority Corridor along Sin Ming Avenue to permit multi-modal transfer to bus and active mobility networks.
