LTA awards ST Engineering $175m contracts for bus fleet upgrades
The company expects to complete modernisation works by 2027.
The urban solutions unit of ST Engineering bagged various contracts worth $175m from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to modernise Singapore’s public bus fleet and operations.
ST Engineering will conduct the modernisation works from the second quarter of 2024 to 2027.
The contracts include technology upgrades for the fleet management system (BFMS), fare collection, and power and communications systems, covering about 5,800 public buses.
According to ST Engineering, the new BFMS will aid “incident management decision-making and provide information to the public transport operators to better manage bus service reliability and capacity provision.”
“The new BFMS will also be integrated with electric bus and charging infrastructure monitoring capabilities to support Singapore’s transition to a cleaner energy public bus fleet. Additionally, the move to a cloud-based architecture will enable greater agility, scalability and reliability in future software enhancements for the BFMS,” the company said.
On the modernised fare collection, ST Engineering said the equipment will leverage the advantages of a 5G network and enable faster fare transactions for commuters.
Meanwhile, ST Engineering will install new central junction boxes on the buses to improve power and signal distribution.
