LTA to build four ERP gantries on Ayer Rajah Expressway
Expect the new gantries by mid-2014.
According to a release, to manage traffic congestion on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) between Jurong Town Hall Road and North Buona Vista Road during the morning and evening peak hours, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will implement Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) along the expressway.
Eastbound AYE
A set of three gantries will be built. An ERP gantry will be built on AYE (City) before the Clementi Avenue 6 exit. Two other gantries on slip roads into this stretch of AYE will also be built to complement the first gantry, at (i) the slip road into AYE (City) from Clementi Avenue 6, (ii) the slip road into AYE (City) from Clementi Avenue 2.
ERP will be implemented during both the morning and evening peak hours on weekdays. Motorists using Clementi Avenue 6 and Clementi Avenue 2 without entering AYE (City) will not be affected.
Westbound AYE
Similarly, an ERP gantry will be built on AYE (Tuas) before the Clementi Road exit to manage the traffic demand along this stretch of AYE (Tuas) during the evening peak hours on weekdays. There are currently no plans to activate this gantry during the morning peak hours as traffic speeds during this period are generally within the optimal range.
Construction of the ERP gantries will start in the later part of this year. The new gantries are expected to be completed and activated around the middle of 2014.
LTA will finalise the operating hours, as well as the ERP rates, for the new gantries after taking into account the latest traffic speeds review prior to implementation. Details will be announced closer to the implementation date.
