LTA to regulate third-party booking apps under new bill

It was passed in Parliament yesterday.

A bill that will allow the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to regulate third-party booking apps was passed in Parliament yesterday.

The bill, known as the Third-Party Taxi Booking Service Providers Act 2015, compels such taxi booking providers to secure a licence before they can operate in Singapore.

Licensed taxi service operators who provide booking services for taxis within their fleet are not subject to the act.

There may be more than one class of registration under the bill, based on the number of participating taxis for a third-party booking service or the type of third-party booking service to be provided.

LTA will base its decision on whether to register an applicant on the financial standing and business experience of the provider and the demand for third-party taxi booking services, among others.
