oBike works on refunding deposits upon Singapore exit
All idle oBikes will be collected before 4 July.
Bike-share firm oBike is now packing up before it entirely exits Singapore. It said in a statement that it is “working closely with the relevant parties” on a solution to refund user deposits.
The entire refund process will be announced once these details are finalised, the company said. The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) encouraged affected consumers to file their Proofs of Debt against oBike as the company is eyeing liquidity and will need a liquidator to redistribute its assets.
oBike said it is also working with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) with a 4 July deadline to collect all remaining idle oBikes in Singapore. “We will have further discussions with LTA if we are unable to collect the bicycles in the given time frame,” it said.
Regarding user data, oBike will be working closely with Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) for the next course of action. “oBike fully commits to the privacy of the data and assures users that it will not be sold or used for any other purpose other than for the oBike service,” the company added.
“We understand that the recent decision to cease operations in Singapore has caused problems and raised concerns to many parties and we would like to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to all affected parties,” oBike said. “We have been working to solve these problems and would like to present the processes currently in place.”
