Seamless travels await commuters as LTA explores hands-free payment system
No more tedious card-tapping, says LTA.
With the advancement of technology, even contactless smart cards, which are considered breakthrough innovations in themselves, will soon be even more advanced.
The Land Transport Authority of Singapore is currently seeking information on how to implement a hands free automatic fare collection system for its trains, they said in a statement.
“Our vision for the future is a fare payment system where technology will help us detect and automatically register commuters in a bus or train, so long as the commuter has the fare card somewhere on him,” said Chew Men Leong, LTA chief executive.
Chew Men Leong says the LTA is currently seeking industry’s views on technology, equipment and services necessary to upgrade the current system.
“LTA will use the information gathered from this RFI exercise to develop the requirements for a proof-of-concept trial by the end of 2016,” the statement said.
